I have been watching the Dippers along the river this week and got this photo of one of them.

Birding at Loch Leven - 18 Aug

I returned to Loch Leven on Saturday.  It was a lovely warm day, so we decided to sit on the beach at Burleigh Sands and enjoy some sunshine while watching the birds.

I was chatting to my other half about Ospreys whilst scanning the sky with the binoculars - and what did I see as I was talking? Yes, an Osprey!  It was over the far side of the Loch and heading in our direction.  Eventually it was close enough to see that it had a fish in its talons.  It then flew right overhead, giving us a great view. My other half took these photos as it passed by, note the missing tail feather. It was a shame the sun was behind it, otherwise it would've been perfectly lit.

After a few minutes, I was scanning the sky again.  I spotted another Osprey soaring above the Loch.  I watched it for ages. As it climbed higher, it met with another Osprey and they proceeded to fly together high above the Loch.  Eventually, both flew towards our side of the Loch where I followed them, before eventually losing sight of one.  The other Osprey flew almost overhead of us again, but without a fish this time.

I took this photo of a Black-Headed Gull bobbing about further along the beach

Later we walked around to the Kingfisher Hide, which is just off the Heritage Trail.  It overlooks a shingle bank and there were various Gulls, a couple of Lapwing and Cormorants gathered on it.

Birds at RSPB Loch Leven

I spent Saturday afternoon birdwatching and taking photos at RSPB Loch Leven.

I started off at the Levenmouth Hide and then walked over to the RSPB reserve hides.

Watched an Osprey circling over the Loch for ages, great views of Herons and over 100 Curlew.
